1. What is a STEM Education Kit?
Check out a STEM Education Kit to teach your students about robotics, coding, electricity and much more.
STEM Education Kits are designed to facilitate learning and play in the classroom for a range of grade levels. Each kit comes with a STEM learning technology, accessories if required and an instruction sheet to get teachers and students started.
Materials in kits are intended for in-class use only and should not be sent home with students.
2. Who can borrow STEM Education Kits?
The Kits are designed primarily for educators, so Brantford Public Library (BPL) recommends that staff from schools and other organizations obtain and use an Institution Card for borrowing these materials. For information about BPL Institution Cards, visit the membership page
. Individuals may also be eligible to borrow a Kit, if they are 18 years of age or older, have a BPL membership card in good standing, and have been active borrowers for at least 6 months.
3. What STEM learning technologies are available as a STEM Education Kit?
Ozobots are miniature smart robots that use optical sensors to follow lines, detect colours and understand colour codes. By combining sequences of colours students can give ozobots commands to change speed, direction and many more. An exciting, hands-on introduction to electronics with do-it-yourself projects that will give children an entertaining education on how electronics work. The snap circuit toy is used to make interesting circuits; encouraging educational play that teaches your child about electricity, devices and more. All of the parts snap together and have colored graphics that represent their real electronic names and symbols.
We have three different types of Snap Circuits STEM Kits. Each type/kit has six boxes:
- Snap Circuits Jr.
Contains 33 color-coded, real circuit components that snap together to create working electronic circuits and devices. Pieces include snap wires, slide switches, an alarm circuit, a music integrated circuit, and a speaker; all snap together easily on the included plastic grid.
Kit contains: 33 pieces (contains small parts), 101 do-it-yourself projects, recommended for ages 8+, includes instruction manual and parts list.
Batteries not included.
- Snap Circuits Light
Contains 55 color-coded, real circuit components that snap together to create working electronic circuits and devices. The pieces include snap wires, a color changing LED, Glow-in-the-dark propeller, infrared receiver, strobe IC; all snap together easily on the included plastic grid.
Kit contains: 55 pieces (contains small parts), 175 do-it-yourself projects, recommended for ages 8+, includes instruction manual and parts list.
Batteries not included.
- Snap Circuits - Green Alternative Energy
Contains 47 color-coded, real circuit components that snap together to create working electronic circuits and devices, featuring projects designed specifically to illustrate different sources of electricity. The pieces include hand crank solar cell FM radio, energy compartment rechargeable battery, windmill cock analog meter; all snap together easily on the included plastic grid.
Kit contains: 47 pieces (contains small parts), 125 do-it-yourself projects, recommended for ages 8+, includes instruction manual, parts list and “Think Green” booklet.
Batteries not included.
4. How can I reserve a STEM Education Kit?
Consult the Availability Calendars first to see when your chosen kit is available:

. STEM kits can be booked up to 6 months in advance.
5. Where can I pick up/return STEM Education Kits?
STEM Education Kits will be held behind the check-out desks at the Main Library. Be advised we require two days’ notice to prepare bookings.
Kits are returned to the check-out desks at the Main Library. Kits must not be put into the Book Drops.
6. How long may I keep a STEM Education Kit?
The loan period for a Stem Education Kit is 2 weeks. The return date will be set when you reserve your Kit and it must be returned by that date regardless of when you pick it up.
7. Can I renew a STEM Education Kit?
Kits cannot be renewed in order to ensure that the set is available for use by other organizations.
8. What is the late charge for STEM Education Kits?
Borrowers using an Institution Card will not be charged late fees. Individual borrowers will be charged $1.00 per day up to a maximum fee of $10.00 for late returns.
