James Edward Davis

Pte. James Edward Davis, 23, lost his life on February 19, 1945, a little more than two years after he had entered the Canadian Army. Born at Newport, Ont., on September 12, 1921, he moved to Brantford with his parents when he was quite young. He attended Grand View and Dufferin Schools, and Riverdale Baptist Church. During his school years, he was interested in sports, being most enthusiastic over skating and baseball, and as a member of the Y.M.C.A., taking an active part in the swimming. His pleasant disposition won him a wide circle of friends. On March 2, 1944, he was married to Miss Florence Olive Gwilt, who now resides in Cooksville, Ont. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Florence Davis. Enlisting on February 2, 1943, with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, Pte. Davis trained at Toronto, Brantford, Camp Borden and Debert, N.S., moving overseas to England in the summer of 1944. He went into battle action with the Royal Regiment of Canada, and he is buried in Bedburg, Germany.
