Digital Archives

The books, newspapers, and other materials in the Digital Archives are local items unique to Brantford and Brant County. They provide important historical information about the area and have been digitized by library staff.

Brantford/Brant County Documents
The documents include the classic Warner, Beers & Co. History of the County of Brant, published in 1883, the two-volume History of the County of Brant by F. Douglas Reville, published in 1920, and the Early Political and Military History of Burford written by Major R. Cuthbertson Muir in 1913.

Commemorative Newspapers
Early special editions of newspapers digitized include: The Telegram, Xmas Edition, 1888, the Brantford Expositor Semi-Centennial 1877-1927, and The Maple Leaf - Brantford Number, July 1923.

Biographies
Information about the life of Joseph Brant and his family, the memoirs of Ignatius Cockshutt, and the life and legacy of Chief George H. M. Johnson have been digitized.

Education
Copies of the Brantford Collegiate Institute's yearbooks from 1921 to 1925 are available as well as several calendars and commencements from the Brantford Young Ladies' College.

Six Nations Historical Documents
Find out about the history of the Six Nations by reading books such as: People of the Longhouse written by Edward M. Chadwick in 1897 and Six Nations Indians in Canada written by J. B. Mackenzie in 1896.

Multicultural Brantford
In 1967, to celebrate Canada's Centennial, the Brantford and District Citizenship Council produced a book called History of Ours, outlining the history in Brantford of people whose origins were in continental Europe. These are some of the essays in that publication.
