Bell City Author Series - Ian Hamilton (Ages: 18+)

Online gaming opens worlds of fun and exploration to gamers of all ages, but have you ever noticed the blurred boundaries between online gaming and gambling? Come hear Emily Harrison (YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program) share the signs of problem gambling and some of the harm reduction strategies available.

The Thinking Place: A Lunchtime Speaker Series - From Legacy to Leadership

Let's build a culture of inquiry! Join us every week at 12:30 p.m. for a new speaker and perspective on topics of interest in the community. Past speakers have included a range of experts from storm chasers to local political icons to paranormal investigators. 

Curtis Bell grew up watching his uncle, the notable Lincoln Alexander, make history and shape Canadian society.  (Among many other achievements, Alexander was the first black Member of Parliament, the first black federal Cabinet Minister, and 24th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario). Bell identifies as an African-Canadian/Indigenous man, and he has carried on the family tradition of multifaceted community leadership as a trailblazer in mental health support for at-risk urban youth. A father himself, this former wide receiver with the CFL and sometime author has been recognized for creating successful ‘gang exit’ strategies using restorative practices and other tools of culture.

Jennifer Robson will join us on Thursday, February 21st, 2019 (replacing the previously scheduled Amy Stuart).  
Robson is the #1 bestselling author of Somewhere in France, After the War is Over and Goodnight from London.

Robson teased details of this book at her appearance at the Library in the fall.
