Bell City Author Series - Ross Pennie (Ages: 18+)

Pennie has been a jungle surgeon, paediatrician, infectious-diseases specialist, professor, novelist, and BGH doctor. When Ross’s characters aren’t sailing the high seas, they’re stamping out disease and tracking down bad guys anywhere between Brantford and Burlington.

Main Branch Opening Ceremony

Come to our official opening ceremony celebration recognizing the completion of the construction project at our Main Branch. 
This event begins at 2 p.m. and will feature refreshments and speeches from local dignitaries. 

This is the first event in a weekend of celebrations, which will also include. 

Friday, April 27: 
An after-hours teen event. This event will feature music, games and pizza. Registration required for this event. Call 519-756-2220 to register. 

Saturday, April 28:
From 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Doug the Great will perform magic and other fun tricks while Willy B creates balloon animals. Twinkle Strings Suzuki School will also perform from 10-10:30 a.m. More details here.
At 2:30 p.m., the Canadian Raptor Conservancy will bring live birds of prey into the new space. This demonstration will also feature baby Great Horned Owls. More details here. 

Sunday, April 29:
Four of Brantford's most-notable citizens will share the story behind their story of success at this event. 
This event begins at 2 p.m. and will feature: 
Comedian Graham Chittenden
Olympic marathoner Krista DuChene
Young philanthropist Ethan Golden
Author Marsha Skrypuch

Plus, the Library has partnered with the Brantford Food Bank to offer a Food for Fines program from Friday, April 27 to May 4. Through this, customers can donate a non-perishable food item in exchange for overdue fines. Each can is worth $5 and up to $20 can be forgiven on each account. Lost or damaged items do not qualify.

Food for Fines

The Brantford Public Library has partnered with the Brantford Food Bank to offer a Food for Fines program.

Through this initiative, customers may donate non-perishable food items in exchange for overdue fines. Each item is worth $5 and up to $20 will be forgiven. This forgiveness does not apply to lost or damaged fines. 

Items will be accepted from 9 a.m. on Friday, April 27 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 4. The Library will donate all items to the Brantford Food Bank. 

The Food for Fines initiative is part of our Grand Opening celebrations recognizing the completion of construction at the Main Branch.

The Great Ones Speaking Event

A collection of Brantford's most-successful citizens will share the story behind their story at this unique event. 

We live in a great city with some amazing stories. This is your chance to hear first-hand about what inspires some of our most notable residents. Each speaker will have 15-minutes to share their story and a question and answer period will follow. 

Speakers include: 
Graham Chittenden - Canadian Screen Award Winner, writer for the CBC show Still Standing, former MTV host and stand-up comic that has appeared on Just for Laughs. 
Krista DuChene - Competed in the Marathon event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Also known as Canada's "Marathon Mom."
Ethan Golden - A 10-year-old philanthropist who has raised nearly $65,000 for Juvenile Arthritis. You have probably given this young man a few of your dimes!
-JUST ADDED- Dave Hind - A collaborative artist who uses recycled, salvaged and found materials to make sculptures, aluminum paintings and more. 
Marsha Skrypuch - Author of more than 20 books, recipient of the Order of Princess Olha and winner of two Silver Birch Awards. 

Come discover the best of Brantford at an event that takes place in the newly renovated space at our Main Branch!
