Brantford Public Library Circulation Soars to Over One Million in 2010

Brantford Public Library has reached yet another milestone to add to its illustrious 125 year history. Circulation statistics for the City’s iconic library system reached over 1 million in 2009 – 1,007,793 to be exact. Visits to the Library’s two locations, the St. Paul Avenue Branch and the Main Library, a long-time cultural anchor in the downtown, soared.

“It just speaks to the value citizens see in their library,” said Library CEO Rose Vespa. “When economic times are tough, library use rises. People are realizing, 'Why should I buy my books, my CDs -- I can get it free at the library’! They can skip using their credit cards and pull out their library card.”

In 2010 Brantford Public Library will continue to expand its offerings. Customers can look forward to additional services like a new MP3 downloading station, new collections such as Playaways (a portable MP3 player already loaded with an audio book), e-books and more programs and e-services. “Brantford citizens deserve a library of this caliber,” says Board Chair Geoff Wilson. “I’m proud to lead this Board of dedicated volunteers and work with a City Council that’s totally committed to providing top-notch library services to the citizens of Brantford.”

Not only does BPL serve the citizens of Brantford, a 10-year partnership with Laurier Brantford has the system providing library support to post secondary students as well.

Internationally recognized for successfully combining traditional services with the latest technology, the library provides vitally important public spaces for people to meet, learn and explore.
